Membership in TRTA

There are a few ways to join TRTA:

1.  You may join at your local unit (contact us to find out where the closest local unit is to you, or go here for a list of the Local Unit Web Directory). According to the TRTA Bylaws, Article IV: Members, Section 1 states: Beginning July 1, 2004, any new member of a Local Unit, defined as a member who was not a member of that Local Unit in the previous year, shall also belong to the state organization.

2.  You may join as an at-large member at the State level. Dues are $25 annually (Membership Year: July 1- June 30). You may choose to pay by check, credit card or by payroll deduction from your TRS annuity. If you choose payroll deduction, you'll need TRS Form 593 (below). Dues are $2.08 monthly. (For retirees only.)

There are two membership designations: "regular" and "associate." If you are a retired public school district or higher educational institution employee, you will be a "regular" member. If you are a person who is interested in retiree or educational issues, such as a friend or a spouse of a member, you will be an "associate" member.
