Governor Perry announced earlier today that he is now expanding the legislative call to deal with higher education tuition revenue bonds, as well as hurricane recovery.  Issues relating to retired educators and the Teacher Retirement System of Texas have not, yet, been included in that call.

 

The governor and the legislature have about five days to get something done for retired educators or for TRS. 

 

TRTA members have done so much already to try and advance this issue, but more may be necessary to try and move these issues forward.  TRTA members are encouraged to keep calling the governor's toll-free number at 1.800.252.9600, or fill out the governor's issue page at www.governor.state.tx.us/contact.

 

TRTA is pursuing both of these issues with the governor's office and the legislature.  Progress will be posted as it happens.
