District 13 includes the 14 local units around Austin, including Austin ISD. Being close to Austin and the Texas State Capitol, District 13 officers and local members are closely involved in efforts to encourage legislation favorable to retired Texas teachers. Any retired public school employee (not just teachers, but all the bus drivers and cafeteria workers and more) are encouraged to join TRTA and a local unit. Each new member adds a count of ONE to the total membership, which becomes a fairly compelling number as we get closer to 100,000 members!
