Welcome to the Mainland Retired Teachers Association (MRTA) website!

MRTA 50th Anniversary Celebration was held September 21, 2022, at the Nessler Center Wings of Heritage Room.

Special guests included TRTA President Marcy Cann, TRTA Vice President Ella Gauthier, District 4 President Rosalyn Haynes, Senator Elect Mayes Middleton, County Commissioner Stephen Holmes, Mayor Dedrick Johnson, College of the Mainland President Warren Nichols and the Liggio Family.

Proclamations from the state, county, and city were obtained. Special recognition was given to the City of Texas City for allowing MRTA to meet at the Nessler Center monthly without a fee.

A tribute was given to our Crowns of Jewels, Pauline Liggio, Delores Cavil, Delores Bahr, Imogene Christian, William “Bill” Peace, Lillian Hill, Opal Glover, Mamie Taylor Greene, Andrew Marie Porter, and Carlotta Bedford.

The MRTA History was given and after 50 years, MRTA has continued to work for the betterment of our communities.

Acknowledgement of past presidents was given. In attendance, were former presidents Dorothy Jeffcoat and Rita Boykins, longest serving president.

AMBA representative Sarah Lynch addressed the audience regarding AMBA services.

Members were encouraged to increase membership. A challenge was given to new members to recruit 2 individuals.

4 TRTA Priorities were presented: Support a Cost of Living Adjusted, Preserve TRS Traditional Defined Retirement Plan and Fund TRS Pension Trust and Protect TRS Care.
