W-A RTA works to make a positive difference in the lives of retired school personnel, current school personnel, students and our community. Our local unit was organized October 10, 1999. There were 36 founding members who were led by Robert Palmer, the first president.
As members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, we serve as advocates for all retired school employees to the Texas State Legislature and the Teacher Retirement System. The TRTA Children’s Book Project is a major project that we participate in to provide books for children in each of our member districts. Each year, we also provide a scholarship to at least one graduating senior who expresses an intent to enter the teaching profession. Interesting programs, field trips, and pertinent information is presented at our meetings. We welcome the membership of all retired school employees, their families and anyone interested in education in Wichita and Archer Counties.
We serve the school districts of Archer City, City View, Electra, Holliday and Iowa Park.
Members have the opportunity to attend informational meetings and entertaining programs. Access to volunteer opportunities and legislative updates is also available. Visiting with friends (both old and new) is a special blessing we can look forward to each month. Our meetings are from September through May with an optional lunch. Look for an email, snail mail or text notification of the meetings.
Thanks to all of you for your support of our organization. We appreciate the efforts of our district and local chapter officers, committee chairs, and committee members for planning and implementing all the activities for the year.
