TRS will testify to the House Appropriations Committee on Feb. 17 and the Senate Finance Committee on Feb. 22.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) supports full funding SB 1. <a href=\"https:\/\/trta.org\/es\/legislative-leaders-file-base-budget-bill-includes-increased-funds-for-trs\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/trta.org\/legislative-leaders-file-base-budget-bill-includes-increased-funds-for-trs\/\">SB 1 is the state funding bill<\/a>. It includes more than $5 billion for TRS and TRS-Care. The TRS pension plan is healthy and made gains last year despite the onset of the pandemic. The Legislature\u2019s increased funding for TRS that passed last session is critical to keeping the fund on a path towards solvency.<\/p>\n<p>TRTA is encouraging its members to watch the live meetings. The Senate Finance Committee\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/senate.texas.gov\/events.php\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/senate.texas.gov\/events.php\">stream will be here<\/a>. The House Appropriation Committee\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/house.texas.gov\/video-audio\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/house.texas.gov\/video-audio\/\">stream will be here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>TRTA state, district, and local leaders have already been busy this session meeting with elected officials virtually. TRTA appreciates all of the work its locals have been putting in to meet with officials via Zoom and stay in contact.<\/p>\n<p>TRTA has also been busy analyzing bills related to TRS issues, and we will have a full update on these bills soon. TRTA has a strong legislative agenda focused on TRS funding, administrative reforms, and protecting and improving the retirement security of all TRS retirees and pre-retirees.
