The Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA), the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE), and the Mass Retirees Association were in Washington, D.C. this week and held a press conference at the U.S. Capitol calling on Congress to pass a bipartisan bill to fix the unfair and arbitrary Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) before the current legislative cycle ends.<\/p>\n

TRTA, ATPE, and Mass Retirees all shared similar messages, urging Congress to help retired teachers, school employees, and all public workers and retirees impacted by the WEP now.<\/p>\n

Several key legislators also spoke at the press conference, expressing their commitment to passing a solution before it is too late. Those speaking included House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal (MA), Congressman Kevin Brady (TX), Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX), Congressman Jodey Arrington (TX), and Congressman Lance Gooden (TX).<\/p>\n

TRTA, ATPE, and Mass Retirees are grateful to these legislative leaders for their adamant support and pledges to continue working until the end of the year to pass a solution that will put money back into the pockets of the retirees who have earned their Social Security benefits and are treated unfairly by the arbitrary WEP.<\/p>\n

TRTA will work this issue until the very end of this congressional session. We are so grateful to all of our members who are making phone calls, sending messages, and commenting on social media. Collectively, we are doing everything in our power to make a change. Now, the decision makers must come together and deliver on their promises.<\/p>\n
