Members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA), the May Primary Runoff Elections are fast approaching!<\/p>\n

Your vote in the Primary Runoff Election is even more important now than it was in the regular March Primary! Why?\u00a0Because most elections in Texas are decided during the primary election cycle.\u00a0According to the Texas Tribune, only 18% of registered voters cast a ballot in the 2022 primaries.\u00a0Every election\u00a0and\u00a0every single vote\u00a0matters, and voters have the power!<\/p>\n

We cannot stress this enough: Numbers really matter when it comes to elections. Numbers matter\u00a0even more\u00a0in a Primary Election, and even greater still during the Primary Runoff Election!<\/p>\n

Your vote signifies support for candidates who represent your interests. Like many TRTA members, your interests may include protecting your retirement security and enhancing the benefits you receive.<\/p>\n

TRTA does not endorse candidates for political office; however, the issues we have advocate for frequently garner widespread\u2014even unanimous\u2014bipartisan support!<\/p>\n

Retired Texas educator issues matter to Texas elected officials! In fact, every single State Senator and Representative in the Texas Legislature voted FOR the bills that provided a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) and stipend for hundreds of thousands of Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirees.<\/p>\n

When the 89th\u00a0Texas Legislature begins in 2025 we must be prepared!\u00a0The road to influencing future policy outcomes starts NOW.\u00a0Make your plan to vote in the Primary Runoff Election! Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n

About the Races<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Not all Texas State House and Senate Districts will have Primary Runoff Elections, and in those districts, you may find that only one party has a runoff. To determine if there is a runoff in your area, you may visit this link<\/a> and enter your address.<\/p>\n

Please remember that if you voted in a party primary in March, you can vote only in that same party\u2019s runoff. Voters who didn’t cast a ballot in the primary can vote in either party\u2019s runoff.<\/p>\n

Early voting begins on May 20 and continues through May 24. Primary Runoff Election Day is May 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
