On May 16, 2024, the Houston area of Texas experienced a severe thunderstorm event<\/a> that created hurricane-force winds, causing significant destruction to homes, trees, and personal property throughout the region. The storm caused nearly 1 million residents to lose power, with many expected to remain without power for several days. The fatal storm comes on the heels of recent flooding, which was exacerbated by continuing rainfall.<\/p>\n

The Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) already is aware of significant losses suffered by members to their homes and property.
\nMembers, we are asking for your help!\u00a0We are activating the Texas Retired Teachers Foundation\u2019s (TRTF) Disaster Relief Fund<\/a> to provide grants to retirees and active school personnel impacted by this storm.<\/p>\n

TRTF is the charitable partner organization of TRTA. The TRTF\u00a0Disaster Relief Fund<\/a>\u00a0is also assisting retirees and active educators impacted by the recent Panhandle wildfires, and more funds are needed to assist with the stunning impact of this devastating incident.<\/p>\n

The more money we raise, the more people we can help.\u00a0TRTF will be providing as many grants as possible from the fund to help\u00a0Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) members who are living in the Houston area.<\/p>\n
