This week, learn about Houston&#8217;s very own, Johnnie Robinson, and her role in her grandson&#8217;s Olympic gold medal journey.<\/p>\n<h4>Una historia fuera de lo com\u00fan: una abuela de HART viaja a Par\u00eds para ver a su nieto ganar el oro<\/h4>\n<p>Johnnie Robinson is no ordinary retiree. She\u2019s a proud grandmother, local leader, and hometown hero. This past August, she traveled with her family to the Olympics in Paris, France to watch her grandson, Bryce Deadmon, win gold in the men\u2019s 4 x 400 meter relay. The trip served as not only a special experience for Robinson\u2019s family, but also a sign of pride and joy for her community.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson serves as the president of the Houston Association of Retired Teachers (HART). A retired teacher \u201cfrom humble beginnings,\u201d she worked in schools for more than 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s always a part of what HART is doing,\u201d said Marcy Cann, Immediate Past President of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA). Cann describes Robinson as \u201cno bigger than a mosquito,\u201d but that her energy, intelligence, and activity have helped propel her community and family to great heights.<\/p>\n<p>Deadmon describes Robinson as having a \u201cvery proactive\u201d role in his life. He can still recall the numerous occasions Robinson would take him to track practice growing up.
