Contact your area agency on aging to find a program you like\u2014take a friend<\/li>\n<li>Get regular eye and hearing checkups<\/li>\n<li>Wear proper non-slip footwear; avoid heels<\/li>\n<li>Light up your living space including outside paths<\/li>\n<li>Install night lights, glow in the dark\/illuminated switches<\/li>\n<li>Organize living space so furniture is not in your way<\/li>\n<li>Keep electrical cords out of your path<\/li>\n<li>Minimize climbing and bending<\/li>\n<li>Remove tripping hazards such as loose rugs<\/li>\n<li>Review your medication for possible side effects<\/li>\n<li>Get plenty of sleep and avoid or limit alcohol<\/li>\n<li>Install assistive devices with special attention in bathroom\/shower\u2014use a shower chair, install bars, rubber mats, raise toilet height<\/li>\n<li>Low, easy to get in and out of bed with light nearby<\/li>\n<li>Accessible way to call for help\u2014keep phone in pocket<\/li>\n<li>Keep contact numbers of key contact people handy<\/li>\n<li>Keep frequently used items and small appliances within reaching distance in the kitchen<\/li>\n<li>Use mobility assistance devices\u2014be sure to use brakes when sitting\/standing<\/li>\n<li>Always stand up slowly<\/li>\n<li>Stay safe and enjoy the fall season!<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Keep moving.
