Member Benefits

TRTA Membership has advantages!

TRTA offers a lot for a little. In addition to working for you in the Legislature, endorsed benefits and discounts are available to TRTA members.

All TRTA member benefits have been studied, recommended by the TRTA Member Benefits Committee and adopted by the TRTA Board of Directors. Whether or not to use a benefit is entirely up to you.

Insurance Plans Offered

TRTA members get exclusive access to benefits, discounts, programs, and services designed to improve the lives of retirees.

For more information about any of the policies below, please call 877-810-6334, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. CT.

Dental

Get quality coverage at affordable single or family rates with a high annual maximum—no network required, no waiting period during open enrollment. Coverage of routine checkups to procedures like root canals, dentures, implants, and more!

Vision

The average eye exam and glasses cost more than $450. Fortunately, help is in sight. With low rates, easy copays, and out-of-network reimbursements, a vision plan can help you save hundreds of dollars and protect your overall health.

Long-Term and Short-Term Care

A Long-Term Care or Short-Term Care insurance policy can ease the financial burden on your loved ones. Save your family thousands of dollars, helping to protect your life savings and reduce the stress on your spouse and children.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION

A ground ambulance or air transport could cost thousands. Medicare may not cover this. It's important to protect yourself. Medical Air Services Association (MASA) provides plans for lifesaving emergency transportation services. Services are paid in full, with no deductibles, co-pays, or dollar limits. Whether home or traveling, MASA covers your ambulance or airlift, regardless of your age or medical condition. Plus, you can get your MASA plan through a trusted source: TRTA

Easy Issue Life Policy

Some life policies have health requirements. Thanks to your membership with TRTA, you can apply for a policy with locked-in acceptance, no questions asked. This plan can give you the peace of mind of protecting your family from the high cost of final expenses.

Home HealthcarE Insurance

If you’re like most people sidelined by an accident or health issue, you’d prefer to recover in the comfort of your own home. Home healthcare, which costs less and can be just as effective as care in a hospital or skilled nursing facility, is not always covered by standard health insurance.

Cancer / Heart / Stroke Insurance

There are advanced treatments available to increase your chance of cancer survival. However, sometimes these advanced treatments are not available locally, and the cost of travel, care, and other out-of-pocket expenses can be overwhelming. Cancer plans pay money directly to you upon first diagnosis of internal cancer or malignant melanoma. The money is paid at one time, in one lump sum payment. An optional heart and stroke rider is available for additional premium.

HearinG Plan

Most insurance plans don’t cover hearing healthcare. This no-cost program provides free hearing consultations and discounts on hearing aids through a nationwide network of hearing professionals.

Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)

Accident recovery typically gets more challenging with age, which could set you back financially as well as physically.

Hospital INdemnity Insurance

It’s no secret that hospital visits can be expensive. However, there are other hospital expenses that can prove costly, as well. These include extended hospital stays, emergency room visits, ambulance transportation and more. That’s why having a supplemental hospital indemnity insurance policy could be a smart financial decision – one that provides additional protection for you and your loved ones.

Tax-Deferred Asset Protection

If you never want to get jolted by sudden changes in the stock market, then a Fixed Index Annuity may be for you. With this annuity, your income is locked in, with a guaranteed interest rate. Plus there are multiple payout options.

Disability Insurance

The policy can pay you a monthly benefit after a waiting period when you’re unable to work due to a disability (injury or illness). Your policy can pay up to 70 percent of your income. This disability insurance can help protect your income and secure your financial future.

Discounts Nationwide

Enjoy savings, right from your computer, at myAMBAdiscounts.com. Retirement is an adventure—why not save money along the way? As a member of the association, you can enjoy exclusive discounts on dining, entertainment, travel, hotels, rental cars, and more!

Professional Liability Insurance

Professional Liability Insurance from Barclay is exclusive to paid members (receiving an annuity from the Teacher Retirement System of Texas) of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) who have returned to work in a public school district or public college/university either as a substitute teacher or in a full–time professional capacity other than administration and are subject to the exclusions of the policy.

Medicare Supplement Insurance

Medicare doesn’t provide all the health insurance coverage you need. That’s where a Medicare Supplement plan comes in. Also known as Medigap, these insurance plans not only help pay for additional eligible expenses not paid by Medicare, they provide the freedom for you to use your own physician, specialist, and medical facility.
