The Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) extends its season’s greetings to all of our members and friends. As we close out the year, TRTA wishes all of you a Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and a very joyous new year!
The TRTA office will be closed from Dec. 22, 2025, through Jan. 5, 2026.
We at TRTA—the Board of Directors and staff—want to express our sincere appreciation to all of you for the support you have given this great organization in 2025.
It is still difficult to believe, but the WEP and GPO were finally repealed this year after 40 years of injustice, and the Social Security Administration has begun distributing retroactive payments to those affected. In Texas, more than $2 billion in retroactive payments has been distributed.
TRTA has continued to go from strength to strength in its mission to advocate for retired educators. However, there is still more work to be done. The Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) recently reported that the pension fund has experienced a setback in paying down its unfunded liabilities, which hampers the state’s ability to provide cost-of-living increases.
TRTA has its sights set on 2026 as the time to lay the groundwork for improving the pension fund and helping secure additional funding for retired educators.
