The Texas Retired Teachers Foundation (TRTF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the educators of the past, present, and future by providing financial assistance, educational resources, and opportunities that strengthen Texas public education. Although TRTF is a separate organization from the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA), the two organizations frequently partner to advance their shared vision of improving the lives of retired educators.
Since its founding in 1988, TRTF has supported thousands of retired and active school personnel through programs that address both immediate needs and long-term educational success. The Foundation’s charitable initiatives include:
- “A Helping Hand” – Emergency financial assistance for retired Texas public school employees experiencing a one-time hardship.
- Disaster Relief – Financial assistance for active and retired school personnel affected by natural disasters and other widespread emergencies.
- First-Year Teacher Scholarships – Scholarships that help new educators purchase essential classroom materials as they begin their teaching careers.
- Classroom Assistance Grants – Grants that fund innovative classroom projects and learning opportunities for Texas public school students.
- The Dr. Kate Bell and E.L. Galyean Assistance Fund – Endowment-supported grants that provide additional assistance for TRTA members facing significant financial hardship.
TRTF’s mission is to serve those who have dedicated their lives to public education by using charitable funds to meet critical needs, invest in today’s classrooms, and help ensure a stronger future for Texas education. Meanwhile, TRTA supports the education community through its advocacy efforts. These organizations serve unique and powerful roles, creating a better, brighter future for both active and retired educators.
Every donation to TRTF directly supports programs that make a meaningful difference in the lives of Texas educators and the students they serve.
