As the General Election approaches, the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) is your one-stop shop for voting safely and finding non-partisan information on how, when, and where to cast your vote.
There are only 21 days before election day (November 3) and six days until early voting begins (October 19). We urge you to plan ahead and apply for a mail-in ballot if you are eligible. If you plan to vote in person, make a plan to vote early to avoid longer lines and take a family member, friend, or neighbor with you!
Be aware of election deadlines and take steps to ensure you are ready to vote in General Election 2026!
Key Dates
- October 19: Early voting begins (use this site to verify early voting locations)
- October 23: Deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot
- October 30: Early voting ends
- November 3: General Election Day
Voting Resources
Here are two new resources that explain the ins-and-outs of voting and include information about who and what will be on the ballot.
- The Texas Tribune includes the information you need about how and when to vote as well as who is on the ticket in statewide races. You can confirm your voter registration, request a mail-in ballot, and register to vote using the links included on the page.
- Raise Your Hand Texas is an education advocacy group. Their website allows you to view your voter information, research candidates, and register to vote.
- The League of Women Voters of Texas offers a nonpartisan Voters Guide and VOTE411, an online tool that lets you see what’s on your ballot and compare candidates’ responses to questions.
- The Teach the Vote candidate search is a project of the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE). It provides information on candidates’ education policy positions and education-related voting records for current officeholders. The site also includes candidate survey responses. It is nonpartisan and does not endorse candidates.
Making Your Decision
As you decide which candidates deserve your vote, please take a look at the TRTA Legislative Priorities. These may be useful to you as you determine which candidates support issues that impact retired Texas public school personnel.
If they are candidates for the Texas Legislature, will they commit to funding a meaningful, substantial benefit increase for Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirees?
Many TRTA Chapters are conducting candidate forums at their meetings. Ask for details from your Chapter President if you already are a Chapter member or contact a Chapter near you for more information. Candidate forums are a great way to get your questions answered before you vote.
TRTA will continue to use the Inside Line to share resources every week about how, when, and where to vote! Stay tuned.
