Early Voting Begins Today!

As the General Election approaches, the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) is your one-stop shop for voting safely and finding non-partisan information on how, when, and where to cast your vote.

Mark Your Calendars!

• October 23, 2020 — Vote by mail application due
• October 13-30, 2020 — Early voting period
• November 3, 2020 • 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. — Election Day

It’s Time to Complete Your Voting Plan!

If you plan to vote by mail, the U.S. Postal Service advises that you mail your ballot by October 19, though you may still request a ballot through October 23. Counties also offer drop-off locations where you can turn in your ballot if you do not want to send it via postal mail.

Where to Vote Early

In-person early voting begins today (October 13) and continues through October 30. If you plan to vote in person, please follow all safety guidelines.

The Texas Secretary of State website lists early voting locations. You can find yours by entering your Texas driver’s license number and date of birth here.

Most counties have early voting sites listed on their website. Click here for the list of county websites.

Why Do You Vote?

If you want to have some fun and encourage other educators to vote, our partners in Texas Educators Vote (TEV) have a fun activity for you to consider.

Click here to view the TEV Why Do You Vote activity.

Additionally, TEV has designated October 19 as Educator Voting Day to highlight the importance of voting for all students and educators in our public schools. Help us spread the message to all the educators in your area. GO VOTE!

Making Your Decision

As you make your choices about your elected leaders, remember that 2020 is the first election without straight party voting. You will need to review your entire ballot and choose the candidate you support for each position. You can view your ballot online here, along with candidates’ answers to survey questions posed by the League of Women voters.

The Inside Line will continue to share resources each week on how, when, and where to vote.

Please stay safe, and either vote by mail or make a plan to vote during the early voting period and avoid long lines and big crowds. Stay tuned to the Inside Line for additional information as we get closer to the election.
