Today, December 19, the United States Senate will continue debating H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act. As members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) know, if passed, H.R. 82 would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).
We are asking you to reach out to Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn and ask for their support of H.R. 82, as is, without any amendments.
The Senate will convene at approximately 9 a.m. Central. The live video of the proceedings will be available from this link. Please note, H.R. 82 debate may not begin at the start of the day.

As we mentioned in last night’s Línea interior, H.R. 82 still faces several steps before passage, including defeating several filed amendments as well as a vote on the actual bill.
While TRTA respects all our elected leaders and their views, our position is fully supporting the bill at hand as-is for final passage! Today’s message to our Texas elected officials is simple, respectful, and to-the-point. Now is the time to pass WEP and GPO repeal!
We encourage our members when calling or emailing their Senators to continue to be courteous, time conscious, direct, and ask for their help and their vote. TRTA respects the work they are doing, and we want to secure their support.
