Season’s Greetings From TRTA

The Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) extends its season’s greetings to all members and friends. As the year draws to a close, we know our dedicated retirees will enjoy spending time with loved ones and celebrating the holidays.

We at TRTA, the Board of Directors and staff, want to express our sincere appreciation to all of you for the support you have given to this great organization in 2024.

Because of you, TRTA was able to rally enough support to finally convince the United States Congress to repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). For 42 years, retired educators have had their Social Security benefits unfairly cut by these arbitrary measures.

TRTA received the following comment from Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). We hope to receive more comments from the Texas congressional delegation in the coming days.

“I am happy that we were able to right a long-standing wrong this Christmas season. Thanks to all the teachers, firefighters, and law-enforcement officials who contribute so much to our safety, well-being, and prosperity. Merry Christmas to all,” said Cornyn.

TRTA will continue to report on the latest updates on when retirees can look forward to seeing their Social Security benefits fully restored.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Texas Legislature will convene, and TRTA will be front and center advocating on behalf of all retired educators for improved benefits through the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS).

If you know someone who should be a member of TRTA who has not yet joined, please consider buying them a TRTA membership—just $35—as a gift for this holiday season!

TRTA has proven time and time again that it is THE VOICE for public education retirees. Whether it’s lobbying for a cost-of-living adjustment, improving the health insurance benefits through TRS, or increasing the Social Security payments retirees receive, TRTA has a proven track record of success! Join us today.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us in the past, and we look forward to continuing to fight for retired educators in the future!
