Today, December 20, the United States Senate will continue debating H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act. A vote on the bill is expected.
As members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) know, if passed, H.R. 82 would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).
The Senate will convene at approximately 9 a.m. Central today. The live video of the proceedings will be available from this link. Please note, H.R. 82 debate may not begin at the start of the day. Please stay tuned to the feed and to our pagina de Facebook for updates.
Momentum is on our side, and we need to keep up the pressure on our Senators to vote for H.R. 82.
We are asking you to reach out to Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn and ask for their support of H.R. 82, as is, without any amendments.
Members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA), this will be another long day! H.R. 82 still faces several steps before passage, including defeating several filed amendments as well as a vote on the actual bill.
While TRTA respects all our elected leaders and their views, our position is fully supporting the bill at hand as-is for final passage! Today’s message to our Texas elected officials is simple, respectful, and to-the-point. Now is the time to pass WEP and GPO repeal!
We encourage our members when calling or emailing their Senators to continue to be courteous, time conscious, direct, and ask for their help and their vote. TRTA respects the work they are doing, and we want to secure their support.
REMINDER: TRTA Executive Director Tim Lee will be live on Facebook y YouTube after the final votes on H.R. 82 have been taken to share the news of the bill’s status.
