HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT: TRTA to Host Town Hall Events with John Cornyn and MJ Hegar

The Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) is pleased to announce that we are planning two virtual town hall events focused on issues at the federal government level. U.S. Senator John Cornyn will join us for a town hall meeting on Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. MJ Hegar is challenging Cornyn for the U.S. senate seat, and she will join us for a town hall meeting on Oct. 3 at 2:15 p.m.

Both Cornyn and Hegar have indicated their strong interest in speaking to TRTA’s members about issues that impact them at the federal level, such as Social Security.

The events will be streamed live on both YouTube and Facebook. The links to the streams will go live once the events begin.

This is a great opportunity not only for our current members but also for any Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retiree or pre-retiree to get involved and participate in the election process. If you’ve always had questions about the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP), Government Pension Offset (GPO), and other Social Security issues, now is the time to ask!

As TRTA finalizes the details for the town halls, we are asking for our members’ help to make them as informative as possible! We need your input. Please take the time to complete this short Google form and let us know what questions and topics you would like to see covered during the events. Your question may be even be asked live! Please submit your questions by Monday, Sept. 28!

While TRTA does not endorse any candidates for political office, we want to be sure our members are informed and have the resources they need to make educated decisions. Most importantly, we want our members to know how important it is to vote in every election!

Please, if you plan to attend one or both of these town hall events, invite friends, family members, colleagues, and active educators you know to attend too! The events will be free to view and are sure to provide you with a unique opportunity to hear directly from the candidates about issues that impact your retirement security.

Thank you for being a dedicated member of TRTA. Do you know someone who is not yet a member of TRTA and should be involved in helping to protect the retirement security of the 1,000,000-plus Texans working in our school districts? Invite them to this event and invite them to join our great organization that works exclusively to protect and improve benefits for all Texas retired school personnel!
