Many members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) are familiar with our charitable partner, the Texas Retired Teachers Foundation (TRTF). TRTF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides resources for retired TRS annuitants as well as active and beginning teachers. Since 2008, TRTF has distributed more than $1 million to educators of the past, present, and future across Texas!
TRTF manages several charitable programs: “A Helping Hand,” Disaster Relief, Classroom Assistance Grants, and First-Year Teacher Scholarships. Additionally, TRTF supports the Lehr-Pritchard “A Helping Hand” Endowment Fund to provide long-term revenue for the “A Helping Hand” program.
TRTF Visits 2024-2025 Scholarship Winner!
TRTF awarded 35 First-Year Teacher Scholarships to teachers all over Texas for the 2024-2025 school year. This $1,000 scholarship was used for projects and items such as flexible seating, gym equipment, and musical instruments.
TRTF had the privilege of visiting scholarship winner Melissa McKinsey. Melissa teaches Animation I, Animation II, and Practicum at Sotomayor High School in San Antonio and used her scholarship funds to invest in equipment that aids in reducing eye strain and improving the animation process.
