After weeks of discussion, speculation and political advertisements, the Primary Election cycle of the Texas elections process has come to an end. On Tuesday, May 27, the Primary Runoff Election finalized the selection of candidates from all parties for many statewide positions, Congressional seats, and several Texas Senate and Texas House seats. These candidates will face each other in the November election.
The Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) thanks its members for their participation and especially for making the effort to get out and vote and encourage others to do the same. Many of our members volunteer at polling locations and get involved in promoting candidates of their choice within their communities. We truly have the best members of any organization in the state!
For a complete listing of results, including vote totals and percentages, you can view the Texas Tribune Scoreboard. This feature is customizable, allowing you to save specific races or search by party, district or even address.
Although TRTA will spend much of the summer focused on policy discussions and preparing for the 84th Legislative Session, we will also take this time to communicate with as many candidates as possible and gather information for your consideration. TRTA does not endorse candidates for political office and will not tell you who to vote for, but we will do our best to educate our members.
Please bear in mind that many of our elected officials that begin serving in 2015 will have less than two years of experience in their roles! We cannot rest at any time as we strive to educate them about the TRS pension fund and TRS-Care! If you are a local unit leader, please consider inviting candidates to one of your fall local unit meetings to discuss these issues.
Thank you for being a member of TRTA. If you are not a member and would like to join, please contact our Membership Department at 1.800.880.1650. Like us on Facebook!
