Members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) have been waiting anxiously for more information about the November 7, 2023 General Election, when a constitutional amendment will appear on the ballot to approve funding for a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for eligible annuitants of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS). You can read details about the proposed COLA at this link.
Secretary of State Jane Nelson announced last week that the drawing for the order of the constitutional amendments on the November ballot will take place this Friday, August 4 at 10 a.m. TRTA will know at that time what proposition number will be assigned to the TRS COLA amendment.
In July, TRTA officially kicked off a series of Facebook and YouTube live events with Executive Director Tim Lee to provide more information for our members about how TRTA plans to support the amendment and how members can participate in the process.
The second live event will be held on Tuesday, August 8 at 4:00 p.m. Tim Lee will continue these live events the second Tuesday of every month, through Election Day on November 7, 2023. Members, please mark your calendars for this live event on August 8 and let your fellow retirees know about it!
Watching the live events is easy! Just click on TRTA’s Facebook page or YouTube channel. These live events are recorded and are viewable after airing from the same links provided.
Thank you for being a member of TRTA. We are asking members to please renew their dues with TRTA if they have not done so already. If you know someone who is not a member, please invite them to join us! There is strength in numbers and the surest way for us to accomplish success is to grow the organization.
