Support the Foundation by viewing and sharing their fourth video!
Tim Lee, the Executive Director of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA), started his job just as TRTA opened the doors to its permanent home. The building was the product of years of hard work and fundraising by the Texas Retired Teachers Foundation (TRTF). The building marks its 10-year opening anniversary on November 12. TRTF’s Foundation Month is in November, but you can donate now at www.trtf.org!
Before the Texas Retired Teachers Foundation (TRTF) began their scholarship, classroom assistance grant and “A Helping Hand” programs, they brought retirees together to raise funds for TRTA’s state office in Austin, Texas. Many of our members recall the establishment of the Building Fund Trust in 1988, which raised over $750,000 through annual “Walks to the Wall” through 1999.
TRTF partnered with Development 2000, Inc. a private development company, to finalize the funding needs for the building in 2001. Designs were developed and contracts were signed, and TRTF broke ground on the 313 E. 12th street location in the summer of 2003.
After 16 years, the dream of creating a permanent home for TRTA just steps from the east door of the Texas Capitol came true! November, which is also Foundation Month, marks the 10-year anniversary of the grand opening of what is now known as the Trinity Office Center.
TRTF continues its fundraising drive for its four charitable programs throughout October and November. Foundation Month (November) is a 30-day charity opportunity to donate to TRTF, so that grants for teachers continue to improve classrooms for Texas students and retirees in need can receive financial assistance. TRTF also supports scholarships for future educators and the Legacy Campaign, which promotes a positive image of our public education system as well as TRS.
Our members will notice that this year, TRTF has included its Annual Appeal Letter in the third quarter issue of The VOICE. Using The VOICE to send the appeal is saving the Foundation thousands of dollars that can be used towards its charitable programs!
Please consider mailing in your tax-deductible donation using the donation card found on the last page of The VOICE. You may also donate online here, or over the phone by calling 1.800.880.1650.
Look forward to a new TRTF video update every week throughout the month of October! Show your support for our vital charitable programs by sharing these videos now and throughout the months of October and November! To watch the third update, please click the video below.
