TRTA in Washington D.C. Calling for WEP Reform: Press Conference at 9:00 a.m.!

The Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA), the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE), and the Mass Retirees are in Washington, D.C. this week inspired by the outpouring of support from our members to get Congress to pass a bipartisan bill to fix the unfair and arbitrary Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) before the current legislative cycle ends.

Watch their press conference LIVE at 9:00 a.m. Central (Today, December 14)! Click this link to view the press conference.

The groups will be on the southeast steps of the United States Capitol holding a press conference at 9:00 a.m.

TRTA leaders are calling on Congress to make a deal and begin helping retired teachers, school employees, and all public workers and retirees impacted by the WEP.

TRTA Executive Tim Lee says “it is unacceptable to maintain an arbitrary Social Security rule that punishes our public workers,” adding that “whatever the plan or belief or motivation behind the WEP, we know that it is arbitrary and unfair . . . and the longer Congress maintains this law, we demean these workers and their service to their community, their state, and to the nation.”

TRTA members, we thank you for the outpouring of support and action over the past two weeks as we’ve asked you to make phone calls and send emails to congressional leaders across the country. Please, help us maintain this much-needed momentum!
