As winter weather moves across Texas, please know that the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) is keeping our members front and center. Your safety and well-being matter to us, and we are closely monitoring conditions as this storm develops.
In addition, the Texas Retired Teachers Foundation (TRTF) is watching the situation carefully and stands ready to respond should emergency needs arise for our members.
During this time, we encourage everyone to put safety first. If possible, stay home and avoid unnecessary travel. Cold, icy conditions can be especially hazardous, and it’s important to take extra precautions.
We also encourage you to check on your fellow TRTA members, especially those who may live alone, by phone or text. A quick call or message can go a long way in providing reassurance and connection.
Helpful Winter Storm Tips for Seniors:
- Keep your home warm and safely heated; wear layers to stay comfortable.
- Have essential supplies on hand, including medications, water, and nonperishable food.
- Avoid icy walkways and drive only if absolutely necessary.
- Keep phones charged and emergency contact numbers nearby.
- If you lose power or heat, seek a safe, warm place as soon as possible.
We are a strong community, and we look out for one another, especially during challenging moments like these. Please take care, stay warm, and stay connected. TRTA is with you.
