Members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) legislative team visited Washington, D.C. last week to advocate for improved Social Security benefits for Texas retired school personnel and meet with Congressman Kevin Brady (R, The Woodlands).
As you may have read in last week’s Inside Line, Brady has filed the Equal Treatment of Public Servants Act (H.R. 711), which would replace the current Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) formula with a new, fairer one.
Brady filed the bill in early February after the new 114th Congress convened. While in D.C., TRTA representatives visited the offices of all Texas congressional members to advocate for support of the bill. TRTA provided information to our Texas Congressional delegation about the negative impact the WEP has had on Texas public education retirees. You may download the H.R. 711 flyer here.
TRTA has exclusive video footage about last week’s lobbying efforts that you can watch now!
Be sure to watch the entire video and get an update on what’s happening in the Texas Legislature, specifically the Texas House Appropriations Committee, and how this impacts the TRS-Care retiree health insurance program!
Later this week, look forward to our Day at the Capitol update which will also include a brand new video demonstrating tips on how to meet with your legislators.
