Last night, the United States Senate finally repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset. These two unfair, arbitrary Social Security measures have plagued the retirements of millions of dedicated teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other public servants for more than 42 years.
The Texas Retired Teachers Association’s (TRTA) Executive Director, Tim Lee, posted a video last night describing what it was like to finally have victory after four decades of congressional inaction.

When Will Retirees See Their Benefits Restored?
Many of you reading this will probably have one simple question: When will I get my Social Security benefits restored?
The direct answer is that steps will need to be taken to recalculate Social Security benefits for more than three million retired education employees and other public workers around the country. That may take some time. The next step for the bill is to go to the White House for Joe Biden’s signature.
TRTA will have more details on when retirees can expect their restored Social Security benefits in the coming weeks.
