MEMBERSHIP and PURPOSE

SMARTS is a local unit of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA). Membership is open to all retired public school district and higher education employees in Hays County, Texas and the surrounding area.
The Purpose of SMARTS: “TO SERVE, NOT TO BE SERVED”
• To promote the economic, social and professional status of retired educators
• To promote the passage of legislation beneficial to retired educators
• To promote continued involvement of school retirees in community service and decision-making in the local community
• To encourage membership in the state and local Retired Teachers Associations
• To present the image of aging as one of dignity, purpose, and independence
